THE BASICS
Score:                    Plymouth State 64, New England College 57
Records:               Pilgrims 6-3 | Panthers 4-2

TURNING POINTS

  • Falling behind 22-2 with 3:10 left in the first quarter, the Pilgrims rallied with a ten-point run capped off with a jumper from NEC senior forward Ericka Pratt (Miami, Fla.) with 7:57 to go in the second. An 11-0 run to close out the quarter pulled the hosts to within four at 34-30.
  • Down just three going into the fourth, poor ball-handling by the Pilgrims gave the Panthers the advantage as the visitors went on an 11-2 run capped off with back-to-back steals ending in fastbreak layups from Plymouth senior point guard Alessia Salzillo (Saugus, Mass.) with 3:05 to go and the score at 62-50 as NEC was unable to close the gap again.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Pratt turned in one of the most impressive performances in the recent history of the NEC women's basketball program, scoring a career-high 30 points, pulling down 23 rebounds, tallying four steals and dishing out two assists all while shooting 60 percent from inside the arc. A two-time New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week already this season, Pratt has now tallied six double-doubles in just nine games this season. At press time, the senior forward was leading the NECC in rebounding while ranking third in the entire nation in total rebounds.
  • Plymouth senior guard Jalen Cook (Monkton, Vt.) led the Panthers with 22 points and four rebounds.
  • Plymouth freshman shooting guard Sophie George (Meredith, N.H.) contributed 21 points while Salzillo scored 15 with nine steals.
  • The 'Grims outrebounded the Panthers, 52-36, but the visitors had a 25-17 edge in points-off-turnovers while outshooting NEC 40.3 percent to 29.4 percent.

  • Up next for NEC, the team hosts Mount Holyoke College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in their final home game of the 2022 calendar year.
  • Plymouth State hosts Western Connecticut State in their next game, also on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
