HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down two sets to none, the Pilgrims found themselves down 22-20 in the third and facing defeat. But junior setter Arianna Blaize Llamas (Honolulu, Hawaii) picked up a setter's kill to get the serve back, then held serve on the final four rallies of the set to take it for NEC, putting the exclamation point on the set with a service ace to put it away.
- Later tied at two sets apiece in the fifth, the deciding set went down to the wire, tied 13-13 with the Huskies holding serve. NEC junior middle blocker Tatiana Sampson (Kailua, Hawaii) came up with a huge kill to give the Pilgrims match point, and an errant attack by Southern Maine finished it.
- It was the sixth five-setter of the season for NEC, with the Pilgrims going 4-2 in such matches.
