Box Score 2 HENNIKER, N.H. – In a battle of the top two teams in the New England Collegiate Conference, the New England College Baseball team dropped two to the Mariners of Mitchell College, Wednesday afternoon, at Laurie Cox Memorial Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One – Mitchell College 5, New England College 1
The first game began as a pitchers' duel, as Shaun Cormier and Roland Thivierge went toe-to-toe in the first few innings, keeping both powerful offenses quiet. It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth inning when Tyler Gendron launched a solo homerun to take a 1-0 lead for the Pilgrims.
The Mariners finally broke through in the top of the fifth, as they scored five runs with two outs in the inning. Jeremy Sagun tied the game with a single up the middle. After a hit by pitch, Dougie DelaCruz broke the game open with a grand slam, giving Mitchell a 5-1 lead. NEC was able to get runners in scoring position in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth but were unable to get any of the runs across.
Game Two –Mitchell College 15, New England College 11
Game two was completely different from game one, as the nightcap of the twin bill started with Jakari Pellegrini with a solo blast, before Hunter Yaworski hitting a two-run homerun. New England College answered with a big inning in the bottom of the first, as Gendron started the scoring with an RBI single. Devin Parson and Logan Gadbois picked up RBI walks before Luca Giallongo reached on a fielder's choice. Michael Ciccotelli grabbed another RBI for the Pilgrims, as NEC took a 6-3 lead after one. Parson opened the bottom of the second with an RBI single to right before BJ Minarcin stretched the 'Grims lead to 9-3 after two.
Mitchell started to claw back into the contest, as Steve Cochran drew a bases-loaded walk before Anthony Diaz singled home a pair and Michael Santiago singled home one to get within two, 9-7. The Mariners got within one with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth before Diaz gave Mitchell the lead with a grand slam to left field. Minarcin recorded his third RBI of the game, as he doubled home Logan Gadbois, making it 12-10.
The Mariners were able to add three runs, with two in the sixth and one in the seventh to go up 15-10. The Pilgrims were able to grab one in the bottom of the seventh but were unable to make the comeback.
