The New England College Baseball team continues New England Collegiate Conference play as they play the Mariners of Mitchell College in a doubleheader starting at noon on Wednesday.
New England College (11-11, 9-1 NECC) comes into today's twin bill riding a four-game winning streak, and winners of 10 of their last 11. Michael Ciccotelli was just named as the NECC Player of the Week and to the d3baseball.com team of the week, as he hit .600 with five doubles and 12 RBI in four games against Lesley. Shaun Cormier was named as the NECC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this year, as he recorded a win over Lesley, pitching 6.0 innings, and striking out seven. He didn't allow a run in the 7-0 win. He is now 2-0 in NECC play, with a 0.64 ERA. Freshman Garrett Langis was named as the NECC Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this year, as he posted a hit in each of the Pilgrims' four wins over Lesley, finishing the week with a .462 average. He hit two home runs and added a double, posting a 1.000 slugging percentage. The rookie drove in seven runs for NEC, and also stole four bases.
Mitchell College (15-6, 8-2 NECC) is a half-game back of NEC for the top spot in the conference. They come into today's doubleheader after taking three of four against Becker College. They boast the league's best offense, led by Dougie DelaCruz. The junior outfielder is batting .382 with five homeruns and 38 RBI. Last week, DelaCruz and Hunter Yaworski were named to the d3baseball.com team of the week, but DelaCruz was also named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association hitter of the week with freshman Owen Robbins.
