'Grims Sail to Season Sweep of Lesley

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England College Baseball team offense continued to roll, as they scored 45 runs Sunday afternoon, as the Pilgrims swept the Lynx of Lesley University in New England Collegiate Conference action, at the New England Baseball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One – New England College 17, Lesley University 7
The Pilgrims got on the board early, as BJ Minarcin scored in the top of the first inning on a Ciccotelli groundout. Garrett Langis scored later in the inning, as he stole second and third, but scored on a throwing error by the Lynx catcher. Lesley got on the board in the bottom of the first, as Ronald James launched a three-run homerun. That lead was short-lived, as NEC plated six runs in the second, as Lucas Giallongo drove in two, Ciccotelli plated one, and Tyler Gendron capped off the inning, with a bases-clearing double.

The runs would continue to pour in for New England College, as Ciccotelli drove in two in the top of the third, before Langis drove in three with a three-run homerun, making it 13-3 NEC. Lesley was able to get two runs back in the bottom of the fifth, but the Pilgrims responded with four in the top of the sixth.

Lesley struck twice in the bottom of the sixth, with back-to-back doubles, but was unable to get within striking distance.

Alex Perez picked up his second win of the year, as he struck out four over 4.0 innings.


Game Two –New England College 28, Lesley University 3
New England College started fast in game two, as Minarcin led off the game with a solo homerun. Two batters later, Langis launched his second on the day, pushing it to 3-0 NEC. Patrick Hagerty had a bases-clearing double, before Ciccotelli finished off the inning with a two-RBI double, making it 8-0 Pilgrims. In the bottom half of the frame, Ronald James hit his second three-run homerun to get the Lynx on the board.

NEC was held scoreless in the second but put up one in the third, then their second eight-run inning up in the fourth. Connor Morin, Gendron, Minarcin, Ciccotelli, and Langis all picked up an RBI in the fourth.

The Pilgrims plated three in the sixth, as AJ Desarro, Devin Parson, and Rob Pagliuca recorded RBIs in the frame. NEC closed out their scoring in the top of the seventh, as JD Normand, Parson (2), Hagerty, Connor Richardson (2), and Stephen Dunham (2) were credited RBIs in the seventh.

Wyatt Cameron picks up the win, as he struck out seven over 5.0 innings. Tim Krol pitched the sixth and seventh, as he retired four, the way of the "K"

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • New England College hit 10doubles, and 14 extra-base hits on the day.
  • In four games against Lesley, Michael Ciccotelli is batting .600 with nine hits, five doubles, and 12 RBI.
  • The Pilgrims now lead the all-time series 11-6.
  • After starting the year 1-10, NEC has now won 10 of 11.
