Baseball Gameday #17: Mitchell College

The New England College Baseball team puts their five-game winning streak on the line, as they continue New England Collegiate Conference action Wednesday afternoon, as they travel to New London, Connecticut to take on Mitchell College at 1:00 p.m.

New England College is coming off four-straight wins over Elms College on Sunday and Monday. The Pilgrims are led offensively by four-time NECC Rookie of the Week, Garrett Langis. The freshman ranks first in the conference in steals (9), and second in both homeruns (4) and RBI (15). Currently, on a five-game winning streak, the 'Grims are outscoring their opposition 32-13. During that streak, NEC has hit nine double, two homeruns, and have stolen 15 bases. On the mound, the 'Grims staff have combined to strike out 46 batters, while walking 19. They have also stifled the opposing batters, holding them to a .220 batting average.

Mitchell is playing their first game since March 27th, where they split at Trinity College. On the year, the Mariners are 7-4, with wins against Fisher, Nichols, and Trinity. The Mitchell offense is propelled by 2019 NECC Rookie of the Year, Dougie DelaCruz, as he is batting .316 on the year, with two homeruns and 15 RBI.

This is the first meeting between the two teams since the 2019 NECC Championship Series, in which the Pilgrims won en route to their first conference championship in program history.
