Baseball Drop Two Close Games at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn.. - The New England College Baseball team falls late in both halves of the doubleheader at Trinity College, Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

Trinity College 9, New England College 6 14 (Game Two)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One – Trinity College 4, New England College 3
New England College got on the board early, as Connor Morin singled home Rob Pagliuca from second. The Bantams tied the game up in the bottom half of the first, as Vincent Capone drove in Robbie Cronin with an RBI single. In the top of the second, Garrett Langis launched his second homerun of the year, as he put the Pilgrims up 3-1.

Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. Jake Mathews was able to score on a passed ball before Sean Meth tied the game with an RBI double. Meth was able to score the go-ahead on a sacrifice fly later in the frame.

Game Two – Trinity College 9, New England College 6
In game two, Trinity was the team that was able to jump out in front first, as Capone scored from a Meth single. NEC would answer in the top of the third, as Devin Parson doubled home Langis to tie the game at 1-1.

New England College would take the lead in the top of the fourth inning, as Michael Ciccotelli scored on a ground out to the second baseman before Parson singled home Harutaro Takahashi making it 3-1 NEC. In the bottom of the fourth, the Bantams got within one, as Patrick Dillon scored on a New England College error, making it 3-2.

Trinity was able to regain the lead in the bottom of the fifth, as two runs crossed the plate. The 'Grims tied the game up at 4-4 in the top of the seventh, as Parson scored on a sacrifice fly, but the game would not remain tied for long, as the Bantams scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Down two entering the eighth inning, NEC was able to knot the game back up at 6-6, as the Pilgrims got an RBI double off the bat of Tyler Gendron, and Wyatt Cameron was able to score on a fielder's choice. In the bottom of the eighth, Trinity plated three runs, with two coming by way of a Capone single.

The Pilgrims were able to get a run to second base with just one out in the top of the ninth but were unable to plate any runs in the frame.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-This was the first time Trinity and NEC have played each other.
- Rob Paglicua has been hit by a pitch in all five games this year.

UP NEXT
The Pilgrims will stick to the road, as they square off for the third time this year against Anna Maria tomorrow at the New England Baseball Complex, with the first pitch expected at noon.
