Baseball Stunned by Eastern Connecticut, 4-3

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -  Eastern Connecticut State University used a walk-off homerun to defeat the New England College Baseball team 4-3, down at Eastern Connecticut, Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Eastern Connecticut was the first team to get on the board, as Ryan Bagdasarian scored in the bottom of the first on an RBI ground out by Drew Alexopoulos. After the run in the first from ECSU, both pitchers settled down until NEC got on the board in the top of the fifth.

Garrett Langis hit his first homerun of the year to get the Pilgrims on the board, and tying the game up at 1-1. New England College would grab their first lead of the day, as Harutaro Takahashi singled to right field, scoring Rob Pagliuca from second. In the seventh inning, Logan Gadbois pushed the 'Grims lead to 3-1 following an RBI double to right field. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Warriors were able to tie the game up a 3-3, as they plated a pair of runs in the frame.

In the ninth, NEC was able to get runners on the corners with one out, but the Eastern pitching staff was able to get out of the jam without allowing a run. In the home half of the inning, John Mesagno walked it off for the hosts, as he hit a solo homerun over the left-field fence.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-This was the second meeting between the two schools. Eastern Connecticut now leads the series 2-0, with both games being one-run games.

- Shaun Cormier got the start for the Pilgrims, going 4.0 innings, allowing just one run while striking out a pair.

- In the last three outings against Little East opponents, Cormier has pitched 14.1 innings with eight strikeouts and supporting a 1.26 ERA

NEC will take on Anna Maria College for a third time this year, as they meet up on March 21st at 12:00pm at the New England Baseball Complex.
