HOW IT HAPPENED
The AMCats were able to jump out to an early lead, as they struck twice in the bottom of the first inning. NEC would respond in the top half of the second, as they plated four runs. Anna Maria answered with a four-spot of their own in the bottom half, to take a 6-4 advantage.
The pitchers and the defense would settle in as both Jack Marzec (AMC) and Alex Perez (NEC) pitched a scoreless third inning. New England College would get one in the fourth and then tie the game in the top of the fifth inning following a Garrett Langis sacrifice fly.
Anna Maria would pull away down the stretch, as they scored four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 13-6 lead. The Pilgrims threatened with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth but were unable to get anyone across.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- This was the 32nd meeting all-time. Anna Maria leads in the series 17-15.
- BJ Minacin was the lone Pilgrim to have two base hits, while he is also the only NEC batter with two RBI.
- This was the second time that NEC started their season at the New England Baseball Complex, as they dropped both of those meetings.
