The New England College Baseball team opens the 2021 season on the road this year, as they head down to Northborough, Mass. as they take on Anna Maria College at the New England Baseball Complex at 12:00 pm.
Coming into 2020, the expectations were high for the NEC Baseball program. In 2019, the Pilgrims were the true definition of underdogs, as they were one win away from the NCAA Division III College World Series. In just 10 games in Myrtle Beach, during Spring Break, NEC went 5-5 with a potent offense. They ranked second nationally in home runs (18), third in home runs per game (1.8), 12th in scoring (10.6), and 18th in slugging percentage (.533). Freshmen Haruto Takahashi and Michael Ciccotelli were each named NECC Rookie of the Week once, while Takahashi was named as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Rookie of the Week.
The AMCats got in 11 contests before their season was cut short, going 8-3 and 7-2 down in Florida. Anna Maria's offense was consistent in 2020, as they batted .346 as a team. Led by Noah Holland, the senior from Sandwich, Mass. batted .417 with 12 runs batted in.
