BABSON PARK, Mass. The New England College women's basketball team fell to Babson College in their season opener 90-24, Saturday evening at Staake Gymnasium.

Following the contest, the Pilgrims fall to 0-1 overall, while the Beavers move to 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

There was even play from both teams to start the game as it remained scoreless for the first few possessions. Babson went up 5-0 scoring the first two baskets of the game but Asia Jones was able to respond with a three for the Pilgrims to bring the score to 5-3. The Beavers then went on a 15-0 run as they took control of the game with a 20-3 lead. Babson closed out the first quarter with a 28-4 lead. The Beavers continued their strong play and headed into halftime with a 47-10 lead. Not much changed in the second half as Babson was able to capture a 90-24 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Mariah Thomas led the Pilgrims with six points and eight rebounds as she went 4-4 from the charity stripe.

-This was the first time that these two teams have played each other.

The Pilgrims return home, as they have their home opener against Babson College on Sunday, February 21st at 1:00 pm.
