Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. The New England College women's basketball team improves to 10-1 in New England Collegiate Conference action, following the Pilgrims 65-50 win over Becker College Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Pilgrims move to 17-5 on the season, while the Hawks fall to 8-13 on the year and 6-4 in league action.
HOW IT HAPPENEDThe Pilgrims came out strong as they jumped out to a 6-2 lead five minutes. New England College extended their lead to 8-3 with just over three minutes in the first quarter. The Hawks then responded with a 5-0 run to tie things at 8-8. The Pilgrims then came back with a 6-0 run for a 14-8 lead at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter opened up with more even play as New England College maintained their lead. Halfway through the quarter, the Pilgrims were able to extend their lead to 20-10. New England College kept rolling as they went into the half with a 29-14 lead.
The Pilgrims held on to their lead but Becker was able to chip away some as the score was pushed to 34-23 five minutes into the third. Despite the effort, the lead held as the quarter ended with New England College up 43-33.
The fourth quarter saw a similar play as the Pilgrims held their lead at 57-42 with five minutes to play. New England College held strong and took home a 65-50 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS-
Rene Hudson had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
-The Pilgrims held Becker to just 15 field goals made as they shot 27 percent from the field.
-With the win, NEC is now 5-0 all-time against the Hawks.
