Colby-Sawyer College Slips by Pilgrims, 4-3

NEW LONDON, NH.- The New England College field hockey team fell to Colby Sawyer College 4-3 in a tightly contested non-conference matchup Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chargers owned the first quarter coming out strong with two goals. Allie Jones struck first for Colby Sawyer off an assist from Julia Lanctot at the 4:23 mark. The Chargers were able to chip one more in at the 10:23 mark from Aoife Daly. The Pilgrims were able to pick up one save and add two shots but remained scoreless.

The second quarter saw things switch with the Pilgrims taking things over adding two goals themselves. The first came from Zoe Pedler less than two minutes into the quarter, the goal was unassisted. Less than three minutes later Brittany Tierney was able to add another unassisted goal for NEC to knot things up at 2-2. The second quarter saw a lot of action but no more goals. New England College had two penalty corners and six shots, while Colby Sawyer had five penalty corners and 4 shots but were unable to capitalize on those opportunities.

The second half saw less scoring and opportunities but remained competitive. The Chargers retook the lead off a goal just over three minutes into the second half. The Pilgrims were able to respond quickly off an Audrey Carr goal assisted by Leah Foster just over three minutes later. The score held at 3-3 going into the fourth quarter. Colby Sawyer found the net less than two minutes into the fourth and that score would hold for the remainder of the game giving the Chargers a 4-3 win.

GOALKEEPERS
Ellie Philbenpicked up the start for NEC making three saves. Abby Ladd made the start for Colby Sawyer and made seven saves and picked up the win.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Pilgrims return home, as the AMCats of Anna Maria make the trip to Henniker. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1stat 7:00 pm.
