Day of Firsts Leads to Doubleheader Sweep for Baseball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. The New England College baseball team combined to no-hit the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on two-day win over Chatham University and John Jay College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One New England College 14, Chatham University 1
Manuel Alejandro got the Pilgrims on the board early when he drove in Luis Atiles in the top of the first inning. Connor Morin singled to right field to drive in Jose Guillermo before Manuel Andujar drove in Morin to extend the lead to 3-0. Morin drove a ball to deep right field for a three-run homerun, which is the first of his collegiate career. Atiles singled home Christian Aybar in the top of the fourth and eventually scored on a wild pitch in the inning. Nick Powers grounded out with the bases loaded to score Guillermo and Ryan Tessier singled to left center field to score Andujar. Morin added to his day of firsts with his second homerun on the day which extended the Pilgrim lead to 12-0. Chatham got on the board with a single to left center that brought home one run. Morin singled to right center field to score Rob Pagliuca and Andujar brought home Guillermo in the eighth inning to get the lead to 14-1. Morin went 5-for-5 on the day with six RBIs.

Game Two John Jay College 2, New England College 17 (7 Innings) Continuation from 3/3
Prior to the game being suspended due to rain, Xavier Nunez gave the Pilgrims an early 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly. The bloodhounds tied the game after capitalizing on a passed ball and a throwing error which gave them a 2-1 lead. The teams resumed in the top of the second. Evan Delaney tied the contest with a double down the left field line to score Aybar. Nunez hit another sacrifice fly to score Delaney which gave NEC a 3-2 lead. Anderson Jimenez doubled down the left field line to score Clifford Guerrero before Bobby Fulkerson doubled to bring home Jimenez. Nunez earned his third sacrifice fly of the contest which scored Fulkerson. Jeam Castillo capped off the inning with a single to right field to score Delaney. The Pilgrims exploded for six more runs in the fifth inning and added another three runs in the sixth inning. Stanley Vargas (1.1), Dylan Champagne (4.2), and Brendan Halloran (1.0) all combined to no-hit the Bloodhounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-This was the second meeting all-time against both teams. The Pilgrims are 2-0 against both the Bloodhounds and Cougars.
-In Game Two, Stanley Vargas, Dylan Champagne, and Brendan Halloran combined to no-hit the bloodhounds, which is a program first.
-Ryan Tessier, Shane McNamara, Tyler Gendron, and Rob Pagliuca all earned their first career hits against Chatham. Connor Morin hit his first career homerun against Chatham. Jose Guillermo earned their first career start against Chatham.
-The Pilgrims outscored their opponents 31-1 on Friday and extended their win streak to eight games and their double digit scoring to seven games.
