Box Score LONGMEADOW, Mass. - The New England College women's basketball team ran away with a 91-21 win over Bay Path University in New England College Conference action, Saturday afternoon.
Following the game, the Pilgrims improve to 13-9 and 12-3 in NECC action, while the Wildcats drop to 1-18 and 0-14 in conference play.
NEC LEADERS
Rene Hudson led three Pilgrims in double-figure points with 13,
Anoushka Boatswain and
Mariah Thomas joined her with 10 apiece. Daleia Boutwell pulled down six rebounds, which was matched by Boatswain and Hudson.
Ericka Pratt led the team with three assists on the evening.
BPU LEADERS
Emmeline Bronson was the lone Wildcat in double-figures with 15. Nyasia Reeves grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for the hosts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
New England College jumped out of the game on the attack, after trading baskets in the early going, NEC started to pull away when
Brianna Pierreval scored on a putback with under three minutes remaining in the first quarter. Hudson drained a three-pointer as time expired, giving the Pilgrims the 16-point (24-8) lead after one. The visiting Pilgrims quickly grew their lead in the second, as they outscored the hosts 23-7 in the frame.
Coming out of the halftime break, NEC continued to pour it on as they scored the first 14 points in the third. Following a basket by Bay Path, the Pilgrims marched on, closing out the quarter on an 11-0 run. In the final frame,
Asia Jones scored six points in nine minutes of floor time, expanding the NEC lead to 70-points.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-This was the 5
th meeting all-time between the two schools, New England College has now won all five matchups.
-91 points scored is the most that the Pilgrims scored in a game since they put up 95 on Jan. 12, 2017 at Green Mountain.
-A 70-point margin of victory is the second time in program history that they defeated an opponent by 70+ points. They took down Nathaniel Hawthorn 115-36 back on Dec. 6
