Laracuente Records 1,000th Point in Loss to Dean

Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. The New England College women's basketball team was setback by Dean College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play, 84-67.

With the loss, the Pilgrims will fall to 12-9 on the season with an 11-3 record in the NECC. Dean will improve to 10-11 overall with an 8-6 record in the NECC.

NEC LEADERS
Jaz Laracuente who record her 1,000 career point in the contest, led the Pilgrim offense with 16 points. Rene Hudson added 11 points and eight rebounds. Kayla Goldring also added 10 points for the Pilgrim offense. Laracuente led the Pilgrims in assists with four. Laracuente added five steals.

DEAN LEADERS
Makayla Rudder led all players in the contest with 34 points. She also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the double-double. Nicole Romero, Amanda Miressi, and Sitaara Muhammad had four assists each. Rudder had six steals in the contests as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Dean jumped on the board first as Rudder sunk one of two free throws. However, Daelia Boutwell responded quickly with a layup to give the Pilgrims the lead. The score would stay the same for nearly the next three minutes until Rudder and Mariah Thomas traded layups. Kayla Ramsay added a three-pointer to extend the Pilgrims lead to four. That would be the largest lead the Pilgrims held in the half as the Bulldogs closed the gap and eventually tied the contest at 12. The teams traded points until the Bulldogs managed to a five-point lead at the end of the quarter. The Bulldogs extended their lead in the second quarter to as many as 12 after they shot a blistering 54.5% from the field compared to the Pilgrims 35.7%.

The Bulldogs picked up where they left off at the half, shooting 42.1% in the third quarter to the Pilgrims 25%. Even with an increase in shooting in the final quarter for the Pilgrims, the lead was too large to overcome. The major contributor to the contest however was the turnover column as the Pilgrims turned the ball over 39 times to Dean's 23.
