Women's Basketball Downs Dean, 73-65

Box Score HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College women's basketball team picked up a 73-65 victory over Dean College, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action Tuesday afternoon.

Following the game, the Pilgrims snap a four-game skid and improve to 4-7 and 3-2 in NECC action, while the Bulldogs drop to 4-8 with a 2-3 record in conference play.

NEC LEADERS
Kayla Goldringset new career-highs in both points (20) and rebounds (14), as the freshman lead the team in both categories. In her first game in the Blue and Red, Jaz Laracuente scored 16 points, while chipping seven assists and four boards.

DEAN LEADERS
Iindia Pina scored a season-high 27 points on the afternoon. Makayla Rudder almost had a double-double as the freshman registered 10 points and nine rebounds. Jamaya Cleveland had a well-rounded night for the hosts, as she filled the stat sheet with seven points, seven rebounds, six assists, and five steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
New England College came out of the gate on fire as they shot 57.1 percent (8-14) in the opening quarter. Dean College overcame a poor shooting first 10 minutes (23.08%, 3-13), with a 45 percent performance to head into the break down just a pair.

In the third quarter, both teams kept trading buckets as the teams as there were four ties and three lead changes in the frame. The fourth started out like the third quarter, as each team would match the other until Laracuente converted on a layup to give the Pilgrims the advantage with just under four minutes remaining in regulation. New England College continued to put the pressure on the hosts, as they pushed the lead up to the final margin of eight points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-This was the first time that both schools have met, New England College is now 1-0 in the all-time series.
-The Pilgrims controlled the paint all game, they outscored the Bulldogs 54-34 in the paint.
- They also had 27 points coming off the bench compared to just five for the hosts.
- NEC had 15 steals in the contest, which is the most since they had 19 against Green Mountain on December 5th, 2017.
