Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. The New England College Baseball team fell to Penn State-Harrisburg, 15-5 on Wednesday night, 15-5, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
With the loss, the Pilgrims are 1-3 on the season while Penn State-Harrisburg improves to 7-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Nittany Lions jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning and added insurance in the second inning with two more runs and another one in the fifth inning.
The Pilgrims would start to close the gap by putting up three runs in the bottom of the fifth and added two more in the bottom of the seventh to close the lead to 8-5. The runs were sparked by a rally that came from the top of the order with
Christian Aybar (Pawtucket, R.I.),
Justin Carey (Amherst, Mass.), and Evan Delaney (Hadley, Mass.). Xavier Nunez (Lawrence, Mass.) and
Stanley Vargas (Boston, Mass.) were able to extend innings when Nunez reached on an error to extend an inning and Vargas beat out a chopper to shortstop to extend the seventh inning.
Ultimately the Nittany Lions, would rally in the top of the ninth when they crossed the plate with seven runs to put the game out of reach at 15-5.
Manuel Andujar (West New York, N.Y.) and
Jordin Diaz (Boston, Mass.) earned their first career hits in the contest, which were both doubles. For Andujar, it was his first start of his career.
