Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. The New England College women's basketball team dropped the consolation game of the Williams Holiday Tournament to Alfred University, 81-66.
The Pilgrims will fall to 3-5 on the season while the Saxons will improve to 2-5 on the season.
NEC LEADERS
Rene Hudson (Gallatin, Tenn.) led the Pilgrims in scoring with 23 points.
Anoushka Boatswain (East Orange, N.J.) and
Mariah Thomas (Cypress, Texas) grabbed seven boards each for the Pilgrims. Hudson added a game-high five assists.
ALFRED LEADERS
Lyndsey McCoy led all scorers in the contest with 24 points. Bri Hicks added 21 points for the Saxons. Hicks and Jamie Wilcox had eight rebounds each. Katlyn Boland had a team-high four assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Brianna Pierreval (Boynton Beach, Fla.) gave the Pilgrims an early lead but Alfred responded with five points in just under two minutes. Hudson hit a three-point shot to tie the score at seven at about the halfway point of the quarter. Hudson would hit another triple to get the Pilgrims down to one but from there Alfred would open up a 14-point lead by the end of the quarter. The Pilgrims closed the gap in the second quarter down to as little as five on a Hudson free-throw. The Pilgrims outscored the Saxons by a 17-9 margin. The Saxons extended their lead to as much as 12 but the Pilgrims narrowed the gap by outscoring the Saxons 21-20, during the third quarter. The Saxons however took over the fourth quarter and never let the pilgrims close the gap any more.

The Pilgrims will make their home opener on Thursday when they host Eastern Nazarene College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action.
