HOW IT HAPPENED
Mariah Thomas (Cypress, Texas) got the Pilgrims the early lead with a layup just 11 seconds into the contest. Goldring and Thomas would add a layup each to extend the lead to 6-0 but the Hawks would respond by closing out the last seven minutes, outscoring the Pilgrims by a 17-3 margin. The second quarter saw the teams trade points back-and-forth. Becker outscored the Pilgrims by one point at 15-14.
However, the Pilgrims would rally using a 7-2 run midway through the quarter. The momentum propelled the Pilgrims to close the gap to one in the last minute of the quarter. Hudson fired a three-point shot off of a Pilgrims timeout to give themselves the lead. Midway through the fourth quarter, McKissick hit the only two free throws she earned in the contest to give the Hawks the lead back. But, Hudson responded quickly with a layup to give the Pilgrims the lead, which they would not surrender.
