Box Score HENNIKER, N.H.-The New England College women's basketball team suffered an 82-38 loss to No. 4 Bowdoin College on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
The win boosts Bowdoin to a perfect 14-0, while NEC falls to 6-4. Tuesday's game marked the first time the two schools have met in over a decade-the last meeting was a 79-39 Bowdoin victory during the 2000-01 season.
NEC LEADERS
The Pilgrims received a team-best seven points and eight rebounds from sophomore Jada Black (Concord, N.C.). Freshman
Samantha Broyer (Kingston, N.H.) hit two three-pointers for six points off the bench, while classmate
Anoushka Boatswain (East Orange, N.J.) had a game-high 10 rebounds.
BOWDOIN LEADERS
Thirteen different players scored for the Polar Bears in the win, led by Maddie Hasson with 12 points off the bench. Taylor Choate scored 11 points, while Kate Kerrigan and Lydia Caputi finished with nine points each.
Bowdoin tallied 15 steals in the win and received three steals apiece from Moira Train and Annie Maher.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Polar Bears wasted little time taking control, using a 14-4 in the first 2:45 of the game to set the tone. The Polar Bears would hold NEC to four points over the first eight minutes of the game, until a layup by
Corina Moore (Derry, N.H.) ended the scoring drought and brought the score to 26-6. NEC rounded out the quarter with a pair of free-throws by Ashley Lopez (San Antonio, Texas) to bring end the frame at 26-8.
Bowdoin outscored NEC 16-10 in the second quarter for a halftime score of 42-18. The first half saw Bowdoin shoot 37.1 percent from the floor (13-35), while NEC shot 26.9 percent (7-26). The Pilgrims committed 17 first-half turnovers off which the Polar Bears scored 20 points.
The Polar Bears used an 8-for-15 effort (53.3 percent) in the third quarter to increase their lead by 10 points, and outscored the Pilgrims 16-6 in the final quarter for the 82-38 victory.
Bowdoin finished with a 41.5 percent effort from the floor (27-65) while holding NEC to at 28.8 percent efficiency (15-52). The Polar Bears held advantages in points in the paint (38-20), points off turnovers (33-7), second-chance points (16-9), fast break points (18-2) and bench points (45-17).
