Women's Basketball Pushes Past Bay Path, 88-45

HENNIKER, N.H.-Senior Tiffany Davis (Baltimore, Md.) and junior Utshana Durham (Brooklyn, N.Y.) both scored 15 points each to lead the New England College women's basketball team to an 88-45 win over Bay Path University on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.

The win boosts the Pilgrims to 8-3, while Bay Path falls to 1-8.

NEC LEADERS
Davis shot 7-for-9 from the floor and added a free-throw to net her 15 points, while Durham finished 7-12 with a free-throw.

Twelve out of the Pilgrims' 13 players scored in the victory. Freshman Rene Hudson (Gallatin, Tenn.) added 10 points, followed by classmates Kourtney Elmore (Concord, N.C.) and Mikala Malboeuf (Fitchburg, Mass.) with nine points apiece.

Davis brought down a team-best eight rebounds, followed by Jocelyn Vien (Pittsfield, N.H.) with seven boards.

BAY PATH LEADERS
Dallas Jackson scored a game-high 17 points for the Wildcats, followed by Haleigh Basssett with nine points.

Jackson was also the team's rebounding leader with eight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Bay Path capitalized on a few early NEC fouls to take an 18-13 lead after the first quarter. While both team's hit six field goals in the frame, Bay Path shot 5-6 from the line while NEC did not make a single trip to the line.

The Wildcats maintained their lead through the first two minutes of the second quarter, but NEC tied the score at 20-20 with 6:23 to play and didn't look back. The Pilgrims held Bay Path to just eight points in both the second and third quarters, leading 36-26 at halftime and 63-34 at the end of the third.

The Pilgrims scored over 20 points in each of the last three quarters, including a 25-point effort in the final frame to seal the 88-45 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • NEC shot over 50 percent in the second half (21-40) and finished the game at 45.6 percent (36-79).
  • The Pilgrims doubled up Bay Path in points-in-the-paint (52-26) and led in points off turnovers (22-11), second-chance points (25-3), fast break points (20-2), and bench points (47-5).
  • Today's game marked the highest total of field goals in a single game for the team this season (36). Their previous season-high was 33 made field goals in the team's 91-55 win over Daniel Webster.
  • The team's total of 66 rebounds is the second-highest for the Pilgrims this season-they recorded 73 rebounds in their 86-40 win over Southern Vermont.

The Pilgrims return to action on Thursday, January 12th when they travel to Green Mountain College for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
