Box Score HENNIKER, N.H.- New England College field hockey exploded for five second half goals as they blanked visiting Bay Path College 6-0 Monday afternoon to claim their first victory of the season.
With the win the Pilgrims improve to 1-5 on the season, while the loss drops the Wildcats to 0-3 overall.
The opening half of play would prove to be uneventful until the final minutes when the Pilgrim offense came alive with a flurry of corners and shots. NEC would get on the board with just 29 seconds remaining in the first as
Kayla Donahue would score her first goal of the season putting in a feed from
Cody Kent.
The Pilgrims would extend their lead to 2-0 four minutes into the second half as
Andrea St. Onge would control a loose ball in the circle and fire in a shot notching her first collegiate goal. NEC would them record four additional scored of the final 18 minutes of play, including first career goals by
Taylor Huyck and Lea Foster. Also, scoring for the Pilgrims was
Abigail Arsenault who put in a tip from Kosandra Miniz in the 59th minute and a second goal by Donahue assisted by
Carissa O'Brien in the 64th minute.
NEC finished the game out shooting Bay Path 24-7 on the evening and held the 4-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Picking up her first career win in goal for NEC was
Michaela Clark who finished with five saves. Seeing the bulk of the time in net for Bay Path was Anna Meyer who recorded 12 saves.
NEC returns to action on Thursday, Sept 17 when they hit the road to take on non-conference opponent Daniel Webster College. Bay Path is off until Sunday, Sept. 7 when they host Colby-Sawyer College at Elms.
