Pilgrim field hockey captures first victory of 2009

Henniker, N.H. - New England College field hockey grabbed their first win of 2009 as the Pilgrims would net two first half goals lifting them past Clark University 2-1 Saturday afternoon. With the win the Pilgrims even their overall record to 1-1.

The Pilgrims wouldn't waste much time getting on the board as first-year forward Miranda Tinsman would net her first collegiate goal assisted by Amanda Namie just 2:27 into the game. Clark would respond seven minutes later as Katherine Rowe would net a goal knotting the game at 1-1.

NEC's leading scorer Emily Kuchta would give the Pilgrims the 2-1 lead at the 24:27 mark in the first as she punched in a pass from senior midfielder Ashley Simula.

The two teams would battle evenly through much of the second half as neither team would be able to muster a goal and the Pilgrims would hold on for the 2-1 victory.

New England College outshot the Cougars 18-15 and also held an edge in penalty corners (9-2).
Picking up the win in net for the Pilgrims was Mary Roux who finished the afternoon with 10 saves.
