Henniker, NH – New England College field hockey would net four first half goals lifting them past the visiting Anna Maria College Amcats 4-2 Tuesday afternoon in Henniker. With the win the Pilgrims improve to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The loss drops the Amcats to 2-10 on the season and 1-6 in the conference.
The Pilgrims would start the scoring early as
Jamie Johnson (Lynnfield, Mass.) would bounce a shot of the goalie pads to record her first goal of the season just 3:33 into the game. NEC's
Khatianna Evans (Wayne, Maine) would give the Pilgrims the 2-0 lead just over a minute later scoring off a nice pass from
Marisa Ayotte (Feeding Hills, Mass.)
The Pilgrims would extend their lead to 3-0 as
Chelsea Fournier (Canton, Maine) would put in a loose ball at the 16:05 mark. Anna Maria would get on the board late in the first half as Emily Nugent (Worcester, Mass.) would put in a rebound with just seven minutes remaining on the clock.
Ayotte would respond for the Pilgrims as she would tack on her second goal of the season assisted by
Brianna Gerrior (Gloucester, Mass.) just before halftime.
Anna Maria would cut the NEC lead to just 4-2 in the second half as Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) would tip-in a shot from Sarah Boyda (Oxford, Mass.) with just over 12 minutes left to play. The Pilgrims would record nine shots on net in the second half but the Amcat defense would hold strong keeping NEC off the board.
The Pilgrims would finish the game out shooting the Amcats 26-11 and hold the 18-6 advantage in corners
Picking up the win in goal for NEC was
Mary Roux (Auburn, Mass.) who finished with eight saves. In net for Anna Maria was Allyssa Boykin (Worcester, Mass.) who stopped an impressive 11 Pilgrim shots.
New England College will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 15 when they host non-conference opponent Worcester State College at 3:30 p.m. Anna Maria will travel to take on non-conference opponent Elms College on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
