Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Regis Downs Men's Lacrosse in GNAC Opener

HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College Men's Lacrosse fell to Regis College 12-7 in their GNAC opener on Saturday. Juniors Matt O'Rourke (Concord, N.H.) and Brody McGonigle (Concord, N.H.) led the Pilgrims with two goals apiece.

The Pilgrims struck first just seven seconds into the game as O'Rourke took a pass from graduate Evan Zonderman (Dracut, Mass.) off the faceoff and snuck it past Regis goalie Devin Hammon. Zonderman added a goal of his own just a few minutes later before Regis cut the lead in half with 10 minutes to play in the first quarter. The Pilgrims answered quickly as junior Andrew Pepka (Pembroke, N.H.) found the back of the net to push the Pilgrims' lead back to two. After another goal from the Pride, McGonigle scored his first goal with 6:52 left in the first.

Regis scored twice in the first ten minutes of the second quarter to tie the game at four before freshman Owen Taylor (Lanesborough, Mass.) scored to make it 5-4. Regis would score twice to bring a 6-5 lead into the half. The Pride got up to an 8-5 lead before O'Rourke scored his second goal of the game to push the Pilgrims within two before heading to the final frame down three. McGonigle scored once more as the Pride came away with the 12-7 victory.

Pilgrims' junior goalie Nate Finn (Norwood, Mass.) made ten saves in the loss as Zonderman led the game with nine ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Men's Lacrosse is back in action on Tuesday as they head to New London to take on Colby-Sawyer at 4:00 PM.
