HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College Men's Lacrosse dropped a non-conference matchup to Plattsburgh State on Wednesday.
The Cardinals (5-2, 0-0 SUNYAC), struck twice as Peter Urso, who scored his first of seven goals, and Brayden Shattuck found the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead. Freshman Shane Helman (Parma, Ohio) scored first for the Pilgrims (1-5, 1-2 GNAC). Junior Brody McGonigle (Concord, N.H.) scored twice in a minute and a half as NEC tied the game up at three. After going up six at the half, the Cardinals outscored the Pilgrims 9-5 in the second half as they came away with the victory.
McGonigle led the Pilgrims with four goals and five points on the afternoon as Helman followed with three. Junior Andrew Pepka (Pembroke, N.H.) added two goals.
Junior Nick McCarthy (Merrimack, N.H.), who scored a goal, finished with three assists. Freshman Owen Taylor (Lanesborough, Mass.) assisted on both of Pepka's goals.
Graduate Evan Zonderman (Dracut, Mass.) picked up nine ground balls while freshman Hunter Knice (Red Bank, N.J.) caused three turnovers. Zonderman went 19-28 in faceoffs.
The Pilgrims host the University of Saint Joseph on Don Melander Field on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
