WORCESTER, Mass. - It was a tough Saturday at the Granger Athletic Complex in Worcester as NEC baseball suffered a pair of losses to Clark University on Saturday.
Clark took game 1, 7-0, as the Cougar lineup scored in five of the six innings in which they went to the plate. The hosts tallied 10 hits, including five extra-base hits, while also capitalizing on four NEC errors.
For the 'Grims, freshman Dillan Abbate (Port Jervis, N.Y.) reached base in all three of his at-bats, going 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. Graduate Brady Philibotte (Weare, N.H.) got aboard twice. Senior Christopher Chagnon (Portsmouth, R.I.) threw all six innings while suffering the loss, while Clark's Chas Caron earned the win in relief for the Cougars.
The Cougars ran things up in the second seven-inning matchup, winning the rematch, 23-0. They scored six runs in the third, six in the fourth, and seven in the fifth. Michael Salzillo had the biggest game for Clark, batting 4-for-4 with eight RBIs and two home runs.
NEC was limited to just two hits in game two, as senior Ryan Cote (Goffstown, N.H.) and sophomore Kaeden Elmer (Bedford, N.H.) both reached. Elmer added a stolen base after entering as a pinch-hitter. Senior Harold Martinez (Wethersfield, Conn.) walked twice
The Pilgrims will now head to Waterville, Maine for another doubleheader against Colby College with the first seven inning tilt scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM.
