HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's volleyball team cruised to a senior night victory over Norwich University on Tuesday behind an all-around performance to improve to 12-10 on the season while picking up their fifth conference win.
The 'Grims made quick work of the Cadets, getting the job done in three sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-20). NEC had a big edge in kills, 37-15, service aces, 11-5, and blocks, 4-1. The Pilgrims posted a solid .253 hitting percentage while the Cadets' sat at -.033.
The group of five seniors who were honored prior to the game all contributed to the win. Senior Tyra Kelly (Fresno, Calif.) shared the team lead with eight kills, tied with junior Emma Bernard (Chester, N.H.). Kelly added three total blocks as she continues to excel at the net, both offensively and defensively. She now sits just six blocks away from tying her career-high set last season.
Captain Alexandra Seijas-Quea (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the team with 19 assists while continuing to dominate on her service with five aces. The graduate student leads the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in service aces per set.
Senior Samantha Winters (Dover, N.H.) had a big performance in the team's home finale, tallying seven kills and a block. Her seven kills are her second highest total of the season.
Senior Lily Cunanan (Woonsocket, R.I.) played well, notching a team-best 13 digs. The libero has led the team in digs all season long, ranking sixth in the GNAC in total digs.
Fellow senior Maeve Amarosa (Madbury, N.H.) added two kills, a service ace, and one block. With the block, she set a new career-high with 16 total blocks while having already set a new high in kills earlier this season.
The Pilgrims will now make the short trip down Route 9 to Keene State on Thursday, October 29th, facing off against the Owls at 6:00 PM at Spaulding Gymnasium.
