KEENE, N.H. – The New England College women's volleyball team suffered a non-conference loss to Keene State College on Thursday night, falling to the Owls in three sets.
Keene State used a quick start to the first set to take an early lead which they would hold onto for the remainder of the set. The 'Grims turned things on late in the set, but Keene State managed to fend off the late bid, 25-20.
The 'Grims trailed 8-5 in the second set before conceding a 13-0 run in an eventual 25-9 loss. Down 9-4 in the third set, the Pilgrims flashed with a run of their own with a 9-2 hot streak to take a 13-11 lead. But Keene countered back with a 5-0 run and later a 6-0 run to finish off the Pilgrims, 25-17.
It was a quiet night, offensively, for the 'Grims with sophomore Teagan Saner (Plains, Mont.) and junior Emma Bernard (Chester, N.H.) leading the team with four kills each. Senior Tyra Kelly (Fresno, Calif.) had three kills and three total blocks, while graduate Alexandra Seijas-Quea (Fort Myers, Fla.) added 11 assists and nine digs.
With four games left on the schedule, the Pilgrims will cut that number in half after Saturday, October 31st, when they face the University of Saint Joseph and Framingham State University in a tri-match hosted in West Hartford, Connecticut. The GNAC matchup against the Blue Jays will start at 11:00 AM while the non-conference game against the Rams will follow at 1:00 PM.
