Strazzeri's Career-High Not Enough as 'Grims Fall to Bulldogs

FRANKLIN, Mass. - Junior Mike Strazzeri (Chichester, N.H.) poured in a career-high 27 points on Saturday, but the New England College men's basketball team fell on the road to Dean College 79-67.

The Bulldogs raced out to a 13-4 lead before junior Michael Hills (Baton Rouge, La.) connected with junior Jasen Stovall (Tampa, Fla.), who drained a three to cut into the home team's lead. Dean answered with baskets late in the half, but the Pilgrims continued to battle, keeping the margin to single digits behind a three from freshman Charlie Amero (Gloucester, Mass.) and a layup from Stovall. The Bulldogs briefly pushed their lead to double figures, but a three-point play by sophomore Dimitri Sime (Lowell, Mass.) trimmed the score to 24-16 with 6:34 remaining. Strazzeri provided a spark late, scoring nine points over the final five minutes as NEC went into halftime trailing 40-32.

The Bulldogs opened the second half by knocking down shots to extend their lead into double digits, but six points from senior Kenray Emadamerho (Manchester, N.H.) and back-to-back three-pointers from Strazzeri gave the 'Grims a 47-46 edge. The teams traded the lead down the stretch until Dean seized momentum, outscoring NEC 13-2 over a five-minute span to reclaim control and build a 63-51 advantage with seven minutes remaining. Strazzeri added four points by capitalizing on two Bulldog technical fouls to cut into the deficit, but Dean responded immediately to keep their lead. The teams traded baskets over the final three minutes, and the Bulldogs closed out the game at the free-throw line to secure a 79-67 victory.

Strazzeri led the team with 27 points, going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line and adding an assist. Stovall contributed 11 points and a steal, while Emadamerho grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and added eight points and two assists.

The Pilgrims return home on Tuesday, as they host GNAC opponent Elms College with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 PM.
