Keene, N.H. - Women's Ice Hockey battled through a hard-fought contest but ultimately came up short in overtime against Keene State in Little East Conference (LEC) action on the road.
Keene State scored the game's first goal halfway through the first period as Ava Lantosca helped the Owls with a 1-0 lead. KSC fired five more shots in the period, but sophomore Anna McGinty (Duxbury, Mass.) was able to defend the goal and keep the 'Grims only down one.
Keene kept their momentum from the first, firing seven shots at McGinty in the first two and a half minutes. However, Lantosca was called for a penalty getting the two teams four on four until senior Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.) was released from her penalty and allowed her to score a powerplay goal into the top right corner unassisted. The two teams stayed deadlocked at one apiece, turning overtime. The Owls pulled their goalie giving them four up, and Brianna Finke found the net.
The Pilgrims continue LEC action next weekend at home against Norwich University.
