HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England women's ice hockey team fell on home ice to top ranked Norwich University 14-1 on Friday night.
The Cadets scored in less than a minute setting the tone for the game as Anna Lisac was able to find the back of the net with help from Madison Anderson, who was also able to connect with Livia Brooks later in the period. With a couple minutes left in the first senior Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.) was able to secure a goal for the Pilgrims with an assist from junior Mae Lafferty (South Boston, Mass.) Heading into the first intermission Norwich led 4-1.
Coming out of the break, NEC was able to fire a few quick shots but were unsuccessful in finding the goal. The Cadets extended their lead on a power-play just about halfway through the period. Heading into the final period, the Cadets led 8-1.
Norwich continued their dominance and came away with a 14-1 victory. Junior Alexis Hornsby (Atkinson, N.H.) led the team with five shots and sophomore Kayden Lallier Whissell (Stevensville, Ont.) tallied 49 saves.
The two teams are back in action Saturday at Lee Clement at 3:00 PM.
