HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College men's soccer team picked up an 8-0 victory over Vermont State University – Lyndon on Saturday afternoon.
It would only take the Pilgrims eight minutes to score their first goal of the game as freshman Cooper Foster (Ashby, Mass.) found the back of the net off of a feed from freshman Amit Solomon (Wilton, Conn.). Just thirty seconds later, freshman Ezekiel Weir (St. George, Utah) connected with Solomon, who made it 2-0. The Pilgrims maintained their offensive pressure, and in the 21st minute, Foster netted his second goal with an assist from Solomon. Dominating the attack, the Pilgrims capped the half with a strike from sophomore Levi Campbell (Goffstown, N.H.), who buried the ball in the top right corner to send the team into halftime with a commanding 4-0 lead.
NEC kept up the pressure in the second half, with senior Wyatt Flibbert (Windham, Maine) firing a shot on target that would be saved by Hornets goalkeeper Joe Buchanan. Less than a minute later, Flibbert would fire another shot on target that would find the back of the net, giving the Pilgrims their fifth goal of the day. The 'Grims continued to dominate possession, and Weir added the sixth goal with the assist from Solomon who would pick up his third assist of the game. In the 78th minute, junior Chase Gurtowsky (Torrington, Conn.) extended the lead and five minutes later sophomore Shea Kelly (Haverhill, Mass.) set up freshman Joey Magliozzi (Andover, Mass.) for the eighth and final goal as the 'Grims cruised to an 8-0 victory.
The Pilgrims improve their record to 3-0 and will look to add another win to their Vermont road trip as they return to action on Sunday to face Vermont State University – Randolph.
