Men’s Soccer Battles to 2-2 Draw with Colby-Sawyer

HENNIKER, N.H. - A physical, back-and-forth Tuesday night matchup between Colby-Sawyer and the New England College men's soccer team resulted in a 2-2 draw on Don Melander Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

The NEC offense came out hot, creating multiple scoring chances within the first few minutes of the game. As the game hit the 4th minute of action, the Pilgrims would strike first as freshman Eddy Nyemah (Manchester, N.H.) picked up the rebound from a blocked shot by sophomore Levi Campbell (Goffstown, N.H.) and Nyemah sent a rocket into the back of the Colby-Sawyer net.

The 'Grims brought a 1-0 lead into halftime, but coming out of the break, in the 58th minute, the Chargers would bury the equalizer on an impressive goal from the team's leading scorer, Kaden Lewis

Less than three minutes later, Nyemah penetrated deep into the Chargers defense and found senior Noel Huliselan (Jakarta, Indonesia) near the top of the box; Huliselan took one dribble and sent a left-footed laser past the goalkeeper to regain the lead.

Colby-Sawyer trailed for the next 17 minutes before once again coming up with a game-tying goal in the 78th minute. Just off a lengthy injury timeout, the injury replacement, Mateo Siguenza, headed in his first goal of the season to level the game at 2-2. The tied game would remain in place for the final 12 minutes of action as both teams left with a draw.

Making his first start of the season, junior Matt Guzman (San Bernardino, Calif.) made five saves in net for the Pilgrims.

NEC now takes a 5-4-1 record (1-3-1 in GNAC play) into their Fall Festival matchup against Mitchell College on Saturday. The conference matchup will kick off at 6:00 PM.
