NORTH SUTTON, N.H. - On a sunny Sunday afternoon, the NEC men's golf team returned to the New Hampshire Country Club in North Sutton, New Hampshire to host Norwich University in match play. The team came away with a dominant, 6.0 - 1.0 win to cap off a 2-0 week.
At the top spot, senior Graham Hassan (Pinckney, Mich.) battled with Cooper Bertrand of Norwich, who has been named the GNAC Golfer of the Week for three consecutive weeks, after the two tied for second place at the Keene State Invitational on Thursday. Hassan and Bertrand went the distance, playing all 18 holes with Hassan winning with a one-hole advantage.
Norwich's Harrison Giambattista gave the Cadets a point at the two-hole, defeating sophomore Vesse-Wincent Lampen (Espoo, Finland) by six holes and ending on hole 13.
Sophomore Bryce Sturm (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) won at the three-spot with a two-hole advantage through hole 17.
NEC freshman Emil Elias (Ekerö, Sweden), coming off a strong showing in Keene, had another good day with a four-hole victory over the Norwich four, closing things out on hole 15. Sophomore Dalton Gordon (Boscawen, N.H.) made off similarly well, claiming a five-hole win at five while also ending on the 15th hole.
At the six spot, junior Jack Herron (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) claimed a two-hole victory over his Norwich counterpart. He finished on hole 17, as did freshman Shane Helman (Parma, Ohio) who rounded out the day with a two-hole win, as well.
As the calendar flips to October, the Pilgrims look ahead to their final two matches of the regular season with their next coming on Sunday, October 5th, as they compete in the USM Invitational in Portland, Maine.
