HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College Men's Golf won their weekday match hosted by Keene State College at Keene Country Club in Keene, N.H.
Senior Graham Hassan (Pinckney, Mich.) led the way for the 'Grims with a 74 (+3), tying for second overall with Norwich's Cooper Betrand. Hassan opened his round strong with three pars before catching fire on the rainy day, carding three birdies over the last four holes of the front nine –- including the toughest hole on the course, No. 6. He made the turn with a 35 (E). The back nine proved more challenging, as he sat six over heading into the final four holes. However, Hassan staged an impressive comeback, recording three birdies and a par on the 16th to close with a 39 (+3) and finish at 74.
Freshman Emil Elias (Ekerö, Sweden) recorded a collegiate career-best round, finishing just behind Hassan with a 75 (+4) to tie for fourth overall. Starting on par-3 No. 17, Elias opened strong with a birdie to kick off his round. On the front nine, he carded four pars but went four over to post a 39. He bounced back on the back nine, playing even par, with five pars, two birdies, and two bogeys to close out his career day.
Rounding out the top ten was sophomore Bryce Sturm (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) who carded a 78 (+7). Strum began his round on the shot par-4 No. 18, making par, before heading to the front where he posted four pars and a birdie to finish with a 38 (+3). He capped his day with a birdie on his final hole, the par-3 No. 17, to close at 78 (+7).
Sophomore Vesse-Wincent Lampen (Espoo, Finland) shot 41-39 for an 80 (+9), placing him in the middle of the field. Playing as an individual sophomore Dalton Gordon (Boscawen, N.H.) went 45-43 to finish with an 88.
The 'Grims are back in action on Sunday, September 28th back at the Country Club of New Hampshire for a match play round against Norwich University. Which is set to begin at 12PM.
