RUTLAND, Vt. - The New England College Men's Golf team finished third place out of five overall in the Castleton Invitational. They finished with a +78, ahead of VTSU-Johnson by 111 strokes (+179) and hosting VTSU-Castleton by 22 strokes (+100). Clarkson (+50) took first place with Norwich trailing behind by 15 strokes (+65).
Day 1:
Senior Graham Hassan (Pinckney, Mich.) started day one with a par on hole 1 before following it up with a birdie on hole 2. He birdied on 7 and 13 to finish +8 on the day. Sophomore Dalton Gordon (Boscawen, N.H.) birdied holes 4, 12. And 16 to finish with a +11. Freshman Emil Elias (Ekerö, Sweden) scored birdies on holes 7 and 14 to finish off a +13 day one. Sophomore Vesse-Wincent Lampen (Espoo, Finland) birdied on hole 14 for a +15 finish and sophomore Bryce Sturm (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) capped off Saturday with a +16.
Day 2:
Hassan and Elias tied on day two with a +7. Hassan birdied holes 4 and 14 to finish with a +7 and +15 overall while Elias birdied on the first two holes with one bogey to be under par after the first nine for a +7 day 2 and +20 overall. Gordon scored birdies on 9 and 11 to finish with a +8 and +19 overall. Lampen finished one stroke behind Gordon on day 2 with a birdie on 14 for a +24 overall. Sturm birdied on 4 and 6 to finish at +12 and +28 overall.
The Pilgrims are back in action on Thursday for the Keene State Invitational in Keene, New Hampshire.
