HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College field hockey team earns a win against non-conference opponent Gordon College. The Pilgrim's improves their overall record to 4-2.
The Pilgrims controlled the ball for the majority of the game, attacking and pressuring the goal early. Junior Kacey McClay (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) got the 'Grims on the board first within the first four and a half minutes into the first quarter as McClay got the shot off into the bottom left corner off a save from Gordon goalie Allyson Stauffer.
The team stayed hot on the offense with another goal scored by junior Adelaide Kelly (Rockport, Maine) at the 12-minute mark. Kelly received the ball from senior Cristina Manzi (Peapack, N.J.) in front of the net and volleyed the ball into the back corner.
The 'Grims rounded out the first quarter with a goal by sophomore Kira Geddes (Bow, N.H.) who scored from a penalty corner that was inserted by McClay who was credited with the assist.
In the second quarter, the Fighting Scots kept up some defensive pressure to keep the score the same. Senior Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) had zero shots on the goal in the first half of the game. Then at the beginning of the second half junior Annie Raduazzo (Amherst, N.H.) entered into net who had one shot on goal, and one save in her 30 minutes of game time.
The team controlled possession throughout the third quarter but could not break though with three shots keeping the score the same headed into the fourth quarter.
With a penalty corner taken by freshman Madison Brown (Goffstown, N.H.), she passed the ball to Manzi at the top of the shooting circle, with her upside-down stick found the top right corner of the goal to make the score 4-0. Then just over a minute later senior Martina Hill (Abbot, Maine) scored from an assist by junior Isabelle Toupin (Derry, N.H.). That would lock in the win for the 'Grims with the score being 5-0.
Field Hockey returns to Don Melander Field for their next game on Saturday against conference match up Regis College at 1:00 PM.
