NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The New England College baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Friday at Garrity Field in Northfield, Vermont.
GAME ONE
Score: New England College: 3, Norwich University: 15 (7 Innings)
Records: Pilgrims: 7-19, 4-7 GNAC, Cadets: 9-16, 4-7 GNAC
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cadets jumped ahead early with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. After adding another in the bottom of the second, graduate catcher Aaron Robertson (Weare, N.H.) and freshman infielder Kaeden Elmer (Bedford, N.H.) walked to lead off the top of the third. Graduate utilityman Bryce Worth (Southington, Conn.) flied out to bring home Robertson before freshman catcher Jaken Pellerin (Manchester, N.H. ) singled to right field, scoring Elmer.
- The Cadets used an 11-run bottom of the fifth to propel themselves on top before the Pilgrims added one last run on an RBI groundout from senior outfielder Kyle Dobrie (Mastic, N.Y.).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Pellerin tallied two hits with an RBI in the loss. Norwich junior catcher Michael Sabasteanski (Ashburn, Va.) tallied three hits and five runs batted in.
- Cadets starting pitcher Ryan Miller (Westhampton, N.Y.) went five innings with six strikeouts in the win.

Score: New England College 3, Norwich University 6

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cadets struck first again with a fielder's choice from junior Geffen Franus (Leesburgh, Va.), scoring senior Brock Carpenter (East Berlin, Pa.). In the second, the Pilgrims fired back with a single from sophomore catcher Mike Monteforte (Wilmington, Mass.).
- Norwich played small ball to score three runs across the third and fourth inning. The teams went scoreless through the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings before the Pilgrims started to break into the lead with an RBI single from junior outfielder Harold Martinez (Wethersfield, Conn.) in the eighth inning.
- Norwich was quick to answer in the bottom of the inning with a flyout to left, just deep enough to score Sabasteanski.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Pellerin, Dobrie, Monteforte, and junior infielder Yeri Ramos (Loiza, P.R.) combined for eight hits, with two apiece.
- Pilgrims senior starting pitcher Corey O'Day (Nashua, N.H.) struck out five in five-and-a-third innings.
UP NEXT
- NEC is back on the field on Saturday when they celebrate senior day against Lasell in their first game at Laurie Cox Memorial Field at 12:00 PM.
- Norwich plays their next game at Colby-Sawyer in New London, New Hampshire in a doubleheader starting at noon.
