Box Score 2 FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The New England College softball team lost both ends of their double-header at Framingham State University in non-conference action on Thursday at Maple Street Field in Framingham, Massachusetts, falling short 8-0 in game one before a 6-2 loss in the nightcap.
GAME 1 – NEC 0, FRAMINGHAM STATE 8
- NEC junior shortstop Grace Giesler (La Mirada, Calif.) led-off game one with a single to left field but that was the only hit the Pilgrims could manage for the game as FSU freshman pitcher Audrey Gauthier (Dexter, Mich.) dominated with six scoreless innings, allowing just four base runners.
- FSU graduate shortstop Makayla Rooney (Peabody, Mass.) went three-for-three with four runs batted in.
- NEC junior left fielder Surena Montero (Bakersfield, Calif.) went 0-for-0 with two walks drawn.
GAME 2 – NEC 2, FRAMINGHAM STATE 6
- Giesler opened game two with a lead-off double, and two batters later the junior would score off an RBI base hit to center from sophomore first baseman Abigail Grimes (Baltimore, Md.), giving the 'Grims their first lead of the day up 1-0.
- In the top of the fifth, down 6-1 with one runner on, NEC junior designated player Emma Lopez (Downey, Calif.) came to the plate and hit a single up the middle. That hit saw Lopez reach the 100 career hits milestone, reaching it in her 100th career game.
- Still trailing in the top of the sixth, Giesler came to the plate with two outs and two on and hit an RBI single to left to plate senior pitcher Olivia Olson (North Haven, Conn.), pulling to within four.
- Rooney had two hits and three stolen bases for the Rams in game two while sophomore designated player Eliza Carignan (Epsom, N.H.) went three for four at the plate.
UP NEXT
- NEC is back on the field on Sunday when they travel to Emmanuel for a 12:00 p.m. conference double-header against the host Saints.
- Framingham plays their next DH at home against Worcester State on Monday in a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
