Score – Game 2: New England College 5, Houghton 8
Records: Pilgrims 1-4 | Highlanders 3-4
GAME 1 – HOUGHTON 7, NEC 3
- The 'Grims jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when NEC senior shortstop Brady Philibotte (Weare, N.H.) hit his first home run of the season on a shot to right center, plating graduate first baseman Johnny Cannavo (Weymouth, Mass.) and himself.
- Down 7-2 in the bottom of the seventh, NEC senior outfielder Kyle Dobrie (Mastic, N.Y.) hit an RBI triple down the right field line, scoring junior leftfielder Harold Martinez (Wethersfield, Conn.). That was as close as the Pilgrims could get, however, as they fell short 7-3.
- NEC graduate pitcher Stephen Dunham (Manchester, N.H.) struck out six Highlanders over seven innings.
GAME 2 – NEC 5, HOUGHTON 8
- The Pilgrims again took an early lead in game two when NEC junior second baseman Yeri Ramos (Loiza, P.R.) singled through the left side in the top of the first, driving in graduate third baseman Bryce Worth (Southington, Conn.).
- Down 4-1 in the top of the fourth, the Pilgrims reeled off three runs to tie it. First, NEC junior designated hitter Jackson Round (Cayuga, Canada) singled through the left side to plate sophomore catcher Mike Monteforte (Wilmington, Mass.). On the very next at bat, NEC freshman centerfielder Ben Beaudoin (Meredith, N.H.) launched an RBI sac fly into right field to drive in Monteforte. Three batters later, Philibotte drew a bases loaded RBI walk to allow Round to cross the plate. Just like that, NEC had earned themselves a new ballgame.
- In the top of the sixth, NEC took the lead back when Worth crushed a sacrifice fly to centerfield, driving in Round. But in the bottom of the frame, the Highlanders plated four, and the Pilgrims went down in defeat.
