Dominant Win Earned by Women’s Lacrosse Over Thomas

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's lacrosse team took care of business earning a dominant victory over Thomas College in non-conference action on Thursday at Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire.

THE BASICS
Score:    Thomas College 7, New England College 20
Records: Terriers 1-3, 0-0 NAC | Pilgrims 2-1, 0-0 GNAC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Terriers were ahead 2-1 early on at 10:58 but from there on the NEC claimed dominance scoring eight straight goals with 4:23 left with the 'Grims out in front 8-2. TC scored the last two goals but didn't prove to be enough to overcome the run recorded by NEC as the team was still up by four at the end of the first quarter, 8-4.
  • NEC kept their foot on the gas as they didn't let up their offense pressure in the second quarter. NEC scored an additional eight goals and managed to excel on the defensive side of the field as well smothering the Terriers only allowing one goal to be scored by TC establishing a convincing 11 goal lead by halftime, 16-5.
  • Scoring in the third quarter slowed down tremendously as the two teams scored a goal each but from there on going into the fourth quarter things would still heavily favor the 'Grims. NEC would continue to surge in their offensive pursuit tacking on an extra three goals that the Terriers had no answer for in the lopsided outing as NEC comes away with the 20-7 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC junior goalkeeper Isabella Marzano (Warwick, R.I.) finished her evening in between the pipes with four saves. Marzano has been doing her part for the 'Grims as the junior sits in third among goalkeepers in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in saves gathering a total of 30.
  • The Terriers would split the workload in goal as sophomore goalkeeper Gwendolyn Schillie (Oak Ridge, N.C.) collected five saves in the first half while sophomore goalkeeper Bristol Sine (Fairfax, Va.) would replicate the same thing earning five saves as well.
  • NEC junior attacker Mackenzie McDonald (Boscawen, N.H.) was sensational for the 'Grims. The junior made an impact everywhere on the field gathering nine points off of five goals and four assists as well as securing 10 draw controls. Following up was junior attacker Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.) who earned five points from four goals and an assist. Gilchrist would earn her third hat trick of the season after her stellar performance on the evening. Thus far on the season the Stamford native is leading GNAC in goals and points making her presence known with 14 goals and 19 points. Sophomore attacker Lucy Armour (Falmouth, Mass.) has stepped up in a big way offensively thus far on the season for NEC and it shows as the sophomore earned her first hat trick of her young career.
  • NEC freshman midfielder Michelina Follis (Saugus, Mass.) and freshman attacker Lilly Vaughn (Belmont, N.H.) earned their first collegiate goals in the contest today that helped contribute to the teams win over TC.
  • NEC had a clear distinct advantage over the Terriers on shots for the evening, 42-15.
  • Draw controls proved to be another category of control for the 'Grims over the Terriers that made all the difference in the matchup, 23-8.
  • Turnovers proved to be costly for the Terriers as the defense of NEC made sure nothing came easy for TC in all phases of the game, 18-11.
  • NEC was nearly perfect on clears going 11-for-14 as TC concluded their outing having gone 15-for-21.

UP NEXT
  • NEC is back in action on the road as they travel to New Haven, Connecticut for conference play against the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College from Celentano Field at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 8th.
  • TC will be hosting Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday March 19th at 6:00 PM.
