HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College sophomore forward Gunnar Sibley (Monticello, Minn.) of the NEC men's ice hockey team has been named the Male Pilgrim of the Month for February of 2025 in an announcement by the Department of Athletics on Monday.
Sibley was on fire in the month of February, leading the team with 10 points on six goals and four assists. He scored a goal in six of the team's seven games this past month. The sophomore scored two game-winning goals in February and added two short-handed goals, as well. Sibley earned New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Player of the Week recognition for the week ending on February 23rd.
The sophomore from Minnesota played in all 25 games for the 'Grims in the regular season, scoring nine goals and adding nine assists. He has been a key source of offensive fire power down the stretch this season and came up big in the Pilgrims' NEHC Quarterfinal matchup against #3 seed Babson College this past Saturday. Sibley netted the eventual game-winning goal, his fourth of the season, in NEC's 2-0 win over the Beavers. An upset on paper, Sibley and the 'Grims entered the playoffs playing some of their best hockey of the season and emerged victorious following a dominant performance.
Sibley has scored a goal in four straight games and will look to keep that going in the NEHC Semifinals as the 'Grims travel to Geneva, New York for a matchup against #1 seed Hobart. The Statesmen are the defending NCAA Champions and are currently riding a 50-game home winning streak, but I wouldn't count out these 'Grims.
