THE BASICS
Score: New England College 0, MIT 17
Records: Pilgrims 3-10, Engineers 3-8
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
MIT really got things going in the second inning as they scored five runs on five hits, two of which were home runs. Things unraveled for NEC in the third as MIT tallied six more hits on top of four errors by the Pilgrims to score 10 runs in the frame. Only one more run would be scored across the final six innings by both teams as the Engineers took the win, 17-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Brian Rapanan (Gurnee, Ill.) threw six shutout innings for MIT, earning the win while allowing just one hit and striking out four. NEC graduate pitcher Nolan Stoney (Bedford, N.H.) suffered the loss, going two innings in his first start of the season.
- For NEC, graduate Stephen Dunham (Manchester, N.H.), junior Isaias Nuño (Rialto, Calif.), and freshman Ben Beaudoin (Meredith, N.H.) each provided a scoreless inning of relief.
- Junior infielder Yeri Ramos (Loiza, P.R.) provided the 'Grims with their lone hit on the day and the junior is now hitting .344 on the season.
- Fielding played a huge role in the game as the Engineers recorded just one error to the Pilgrims' six. As a result, less than half of the runs given up by NEC were earned.
