HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The 'Grims jumped out to a 2-0 in just the first 1:15 into the game, with goals from NEC sophomore midfielder Matt O'Rourke (Concord, N.H.) and NEC senior attacker Henri Pfeifle (Darien, Conn.).
  • In the second quarter, the Pilgrims reeled off five consecutive goals to take a commanding six-goal lead, heading into halftime up 9-4.
  • With 56 seconds left in the third quarter, NEC took a commanding 10-6 lead when senior attacker Matt Daley (Plymouth, Mass.) found Pfeifle on a man-up opportunity.
  • That when USM would rally, tying the game at 10-10 off a goal from USM sophomore attacker Adam Coley (Valencia, Calif.) with 3:29 to go in the game.
  • With the game on the line and time winding down, Daley would again find Pfeifle on a power play for his sixth goal of the game with 49 seconds remaining, giving the 'Grims the one-goal victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC sophomore goalkeeper Logan Stroud (Belmont, N.H.) posted a career-high 13 saves on the day.
  • USM sophomore goalkeeper Brycen Wolfahrt (Biddeford, Maine) posted 16 saves in a gritty performance.
  • Pfeifle finished with six goals on the day, giving him eleven through two games. The senior also added one assist.
  • Daley posted a goal with four assists while NEC junior midfielder Daniel Varga (Hampton, N.J.) added two goals.
  • NEC junior long-stick midfielder Jackson Kain (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) posted six ground balls with two caused turnovers.
UP NEXT
  • NEC is back on the field on Wednesday when they travel to Vermont State University Castleton for a 4:00 p.m. game.
  • USM plays their next game at the University of New England, that coming on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
