HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College senior forward Wyatt Andres (Brainerd, Minn.) of the NEC men's ice hockey team was named the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Player of the Week for the week ending on February 2nd. The 'Grims remarkably bring home the recognition for a third consecutive week, with Andres earning the nod a week after Jack Herron (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and two weeks after David Novotny (Boca Raton, Fla.) each received this honor.
Andres had a big Saturday, leading the offensive attack in a 6-2 win over Vermont State University-Castleton. Andres assisted on the team's second goal before scoring the fourth goal of the first period to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. By the middle of the third period, now a 5-2 game, Andres would score again to put the finishing touches on a 6-2 conference win. The victory marked the team's fifth in their last six games – all coming against NEHC opponents.
Andres notched his first multi-goal game of the season and the fourth of his career. His three points were his most in a game since January 13th, 2023, against Johnson & Wales, which was simultaneously the last time the team put up six goals in a game. The senior captain is up to eight points this season with three goals and five assists and has hit an even 30 points for his career.
The 'Grims will now return home to prepare for a pair of contests against Elmira College on Friday and Saturday. The two teams sit just two points apart in the NEHC standings with Friday's puck drop set for 7:00 PM from the Lee Clement Arena.
