Alex Williams (Miramar, Fla.) of the NEC men's basketball team scored 18 points as the Pilgrims lost 65-54 at Johnson & Wales University on Saturday at the Wildcat Center in Providence, Rhode Island in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

TURNING POINTS
- Down by 18 at one point, the 'Grims rallied late in the second half, pulling to within nine off a three-pointer from Williams with 6:09 remaining in the game. But the Wildcats held on down the stretch, and NEC came up just short.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Williams, the Pilgrims' leading scorer, entered the game with 987 career points. His clutch three-pointer with 6:09 remaining put him exactly at the 1000-point milestone, as he became the first 'Grim to reach that plateau since former NEC great Calvin Cheek made it on April 3, 2021 against Eastern Nazarene College in Henniker. Williams posted a double-double with a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds, tallying three steals while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
- JWU senior guard Josh Zangerle (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) led the Wildcats with 15 points and four assists.
- NEC senior guard Theisen Lee (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 13 points on the day for the Pilgrims.
- JWU junior forward Izaiah Shaw-Glen (Baldwin Harbor, N.Y.) posted 14 points with nine boards.
- Three-point shooting proved decisive, as the Wildcats shot 8-of-18 from behind the arc compared to 3-of-10 for the Pilgrims.
