Women's Rugby Defeats St. Michael's on Senior Day, 55-22

HENNIKER, N.H. - The New England College women's rugby team showcased a decisive 55-22 victory over Saint Michael's College on Sunday afternoon. The match was also Senior Day for Karime Camarena-Tejeda (Cutler Bay, Fla.), the NEC's lone senior.

NEC wasted no time asserting dominance, racing to a 22-0 lead with four unanswered tries in the opening 30 minutes. Their aggressive ball-carrying and precise execution overwhelmed the Purple Knights' defense early on. Saint Michael's mounted a comeback surge before halftime, capitalizing on turnovers to notch two tries and narrow the gap to 22-10.

The second half proved to be more tightly contested. Both sides trading momentum through good tackling and territorial gains. NEC, however, capitalized on disciplined set pieces and powerful forward runs to extend their advantage, adding five more tries to the tally. Saint Michael's responded with a late flurry of scores, but the clock ran out before they could close the deficit further.

Camarena-Tejeda had a standout performance on her senior day with two tries for the 'Grims. Sophomore Soob Soobitsky (Jamaica, Vt.) added four conversions in the win.

NEC has a bye next weekend before going on the road for an away game against Keene State on Saturday, October 18th.
