GORHAM, Maine - The New England College Field Hockey team fell 2-1 in overtime to the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, it took ten minutes for scoring to open in the second as Taylor Leclerc snuck one past senior Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) to give the Huskies the 1-0 lead.
The Pilgrims got multiple shots on USM goalie Eleanor Folsom in the third quarter before sophomore Kira Geddes (Bow, N.H.) tied the game at one off a pass from junior Neila Jones (Rowley, Mass.) for her 17th goal of the season.
Both teams had chances to take the lead in the fourth with no score as the game entered overtime. Just three minutes into the extra frame, Southern Maine got multiple shots off that were saved by Anderson before Mackenzie Hall buried it to end the game for USM.
Anderson made eight saves on ten shots in the loss.
The Pilgrims are back on the field on Saturday when they host the Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monks on Don Melander Field at 4:00 PM.
